IAQ Services
In today’s
society an indoor environment
that is conducive to
productivity and profitability
is essential. These environments
change over time and require a
careful proactive approach to
achieve. More and more, our
customers are realizing the
importance of maintaining good
indoor air quality (IAQ) in
their buildings. Many companies
investigate IAQ complaints as
they arise and few monitor IAQ
indicators regularly. However,
the current trend for
organizations is the
establishment of an IAQ
Management Plan for their
facilities. This plan is
designed to integrate
monitoring, operations,
maintenance, along with building
staff training.
CES consistently provides the
highest standard of mechanical
engineering and services to
ensure comfortable, efficient,
and healthy indoor environments.
We have established a procedure
for successful IAQ improvement.
This procedure helps guide our
customers through the IAQ
problem identification and
resolution processes. To
supplement our services, CES
offers IAQ training modules that
particularly benefit those
responsible for facility
management.
Typically, indoor air quality (IAQ)
problems are caused by lack of
comfort (temperature and
humidity), lack of air
circulation (“stuffiness” or
“stale air”), biological
contaminants (such as, mold,
fungus, bacteria), or chemical
contaminants (chemicals used in
the work space or chemicals
emitted from materials in the
workspace). When confronted
with indoor air quality
complaints, the goal is to
identify likely causes of the
problems and eliminate the
reason for the problems.
Comprehensive Energy Services,
Inc. is capable of performing
Indoor Air Quality Assessments
in a cost-effective and timely
manner.
The indoor air quality
assessment consists of
qualitative and quantitative
diagnostics. The assessment
begins with a review of existing
building records including
operating instructions and
maintenance records for HVAC
systems, facility operations and
maintenance schedules and
procedures, drawings, test and
balance reports, and Material
Safety Data Sheet review. The
initial review of records is
followed by a thorough visual
inspection of the facility and
HVAC systems. During the visual
inspection, IAQ problem
indicator checklists will be
used to narrow the range of
possible sources. Basic indoor
air quality parameters
including, temperature,
humidity, and CO2 measurements
will be taken to evaluate
thermal environmental
conditions. Other measurements
including tests for carbon
monoxide, hydrogen sulfide, and
formaldehyde will be taken using
direct reading instruments. Air
flow characteristics and
pressure relationships are also
evaluated through the use of
smoke-testing equipment.
Testing for microbial
contaminants will also be
performed. Air samples will be
gathered and sent to an AIHA
EMPAT accredited laboratory for
analysis. All information
obtained from the indoor air
quality assessment will be
organized into a
solutions-oriented final report.
CES’s multidisciplinary team
consists of an Industrial
Hygienist, a Certified Indoor
Environmentalist, a Professional
Mechanical Engineer, a Building
Automation and Controls
Specialist, HVAC service
technicians, and an AIHA EMPAT
accredited laboratory.
