Title Safety Director

Job Description:

Comprehensive Energy Services Inc., has an opening for a Safety Director position at the Longwood office.

Safety Program Management: To continue CES vision to maintain a safety program that ensures company’s compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. We believe maintaining a safe working environment is critical to our success. The successful candidate will lead the implementation and oversight of CES’ safety programs, including employee and contractor safety, process and operational safety and ongoing regulatory compliance. The candidate will collaborate with customer interaction, communicating with the Field Supervisors and coordinating jobs with Project Managers.

 

Essential Functions:

    • Establish and maintain specific data related to incidents
    • Administer all SDS books and the SDS database
    • Maintenance of the Training Records and Safety databases
    • Provide various training reports
    • Maintain and distribute personal protective equipment
    • Participate in investigation of accidents and injuries
    • Inspects machines and equipment for accident prevention devices
    • Observes workers to determine use of safety equipment such as glasses, hard hats, respirators and clothing
    • Inspects specified areas for fire prevention equipment and other safety and first-aid supplies
    • on the jobsites at the shop and at the trailers.         
    • Tests working areas for noise, toxic and other hazards
    • Prepares report of findings with recommendations for corrective action
    • Participates in investigating accidents to ascertain causes for use in recommending preventive safety measures and developing safety program
    • Ensure safety policies and procedures to be followed by company personnel in compliance with local, state and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations
    • Audit facilities to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards and recommends corrective or preventative measures where indicated
    • Keep managers and employees alerted as to the hazards of working with toxic fumes, dangerous chemicals, and any other hazardous substances
    • Complies and submits accident reports required by regulatory agencies
    • Oversees the administration of workers’ compensation program in conjunction with Human Resources.
    • Devises, supervises and coordinates training programs or media which will increase proficiency in safe practices and promote safety consciousness.
    • Represents the organization in community or industry safety groups and programs
    • Facilitates monthly safety committee meetings and provides a written summary with action plan each month
    • Maintains safety files and records
    • Demonstrates use of safety equipment
    • Flexibility to work overtime/weekends as required

 

Education and/or Experience:

  • 7-10 years of progressive safety leadership experience is required, preferably in the construction and service industry
  • Bachelor’s degree in a safety related discipline preferred
  • Travel 80%+ local and occasional at branch offices-Tampa, Southeast Florida, North Florida
  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of OSHA, DOT, DOL, DISA and other federal, state and local environmental health and safety laws
  • Experience with ISO 14001 and OSHAS 18001 standards and industry best practices
  • Excellent verbal, written, consensus and relationship-building skills
  • MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) proficiency required
  • Presentation, research and analysis, and independent judgment abilities necessary
  • Must be available to be on call for emergencies
  • OSHA 500 Preferred

Certifications

  • Certified Train the Trainer OSHA: 10 hour/30 hour course
  • Confine Space Certified: Train the Trainer
  • Certified Train the Trainer: Earth moving equipment, forklift, AWP platform
  • Certified the Trainer: Crane Signal/Rigging
  • Hazmat Certified: GHS certified
  • Certified Train the Trainer: CPR aide, First Aid Responder, AED

  • Plans, organizes and executes company events including but not limited to employee benefits fair, insurance meetings, open enrollment, etc.
  • Confirms compliance of HR Administrator with applicants for the pre-employment process and new hire orientations Supervises HR Administrator in tracking and preparing all performance reviews, administers training program
  • Reviews and updates all job descriptions
  • Answers HR hotline calls
  • Answers any questions and/or requests from governmental agencies, including employee complaints, represent the company at hearings and mediation and serves as the EEO Specialist.
  • Directs benefits administration, enrollment and open enrollment meetings.
  • Obtains bids upon renewal, confers with management regarding benefit costs, makes recommendations and performs open enrollment and benefits meetings.
  • Finalizes all HR internal audits and approves necessary adjustments.
  • Conducts needs assessment, develops training curriculum and conducts training sessions on various HR topics. Conducts orientation programs.
  • Handles all matters with strict confidence 
  •  Risk Management: works closely with Safety Director, handles all workers comp claims, mediations, loss runs, attorney relations, work closely with insurance broker

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of Human Resource experience or,
  • 10+ years of experience in the HR Field, preferably as Manager or Director SHRM/HRCI Certification Preferred
  • Construction experience a plus
  • Excellent communication, leadership and planning skills
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish will be helpful but not required

 Job duties include:

  • Inspect work in progress and completed work to insure conformance to specifications.
  • Supervise and coordinate activities of assigned trade workers.
  • Interpret specifications, blueprints and job orders as needed for area of supervision.
  • Enforce company policies to workers and enforce safety regulations.
  • Establish and adjust work sequences to meet construction schedule using knowledge of capacities of equipment and assigned personnel.
  • Perform routine installation activities without direct oversight or on-site assistance.
  • Assist in training of new CES employees on installation related subjects.

Job Qualifications:

  • Select equipment and plan layout, assembly and welding, applying knowledge of geometry, physical properties of metal machining weld shrinkage, and welding techniques.

  • Set up equipment and weld parts, using arc, gas-shielded arc, submerged arc or gas welding equipment.
  • May attach support systems by bolting and riveting.
  • May repair products by dismanting, straightening, reshaping, and reassembling parts, using cutting torch, straightening press and hand tools.
  • Weld a minimum of 6-8" sch 40 C.S.P. position welds in an 8 hour day.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS;

  • Looks at flat drawings, pictures and blueprints and visualize how they would look as solid objects with height, width and depth.
  • Work easily and skillfully with hands.
